Song lyrics "breathe in breathe out" by Mat Kearney
The Light in Her Eyes
by DarkenTwisted
He looked at the simple gold ring on his finger.
Its mate was so far away in the desert.
He had placed it in a grave, on the hand, of the woman who was too short his bride.
When he moved, it caught the faint light of the moon.
He slid the metal circle off his hand, looked at it . . . and remembered.
breathe in breathe out
tell me all of your doubt
everybody leads this way
just the same
The exact date of first time they met escaped him. Like the sun itself she had always simply been there.
They were both very young. Even then, there was something about her eyes, always shining, always laughing.
They were two brilliant, blue disks underneath a nest of curly chestnut hair. They were so bright over ruddy cheeks, against milk white skin.
As she grew older, they were eyes that grew brighter with whispered secrets and flashed angry when he teased too hard.
They radiated with surprise arousal at the first stolen kiss then burned crossly at his forgotten lordly manners.
How it was so worth the slap on the cheek to set those eyes aglow.
breathe in breathe out
move on and break down
everyone goes away
I will stay
When he told her, he was leaving for the Holy Land to join his king in battle, the light shown bright with fear for her beloved and hot with such anger at his leaving.
On the battlefield, with men dying all around him, the memory of their light was a beacon bringing him back from the brink of death itself.
Looking forward to seeing her eyes again, he put away the darkness of war that always threatened to consume him.
The light of Locksley and Mariane called him home.
We push and pull, and fall down sometimes
I’m not letting go, you hold the other line
Cause there is a light
In your eyes,...in your eyes
When he lost his father, like a lighthouse, they lifted him up from the reef of his own dark despair and led him back to sanity, inch by painful inch.
When she lost her father they were eyes shocked with disbelief so bright and deep with pain they threatened to strip his very soul from him in her grief.
Hold on hold tight
From out of your sight
Everything keeps moving on, moving on,
When he returned to Locksley, they were eyes that sparked the light of relief for his safety and candled regret for his loss of a title, good name, privilege and his people.
The explosive concern they cast with word of his condemnation would have made him long to comfort her.
Even there, exiled from her glow, he still felt their warmth in Sherwood Forrest.
He would endure cold nights, rain, damp, dungeon and threat of hangmen’s noose to stay in their gaze.
All his sins washed away in her light.
Hold on hold tight
Make it through another night
Everyday there comes the sun with the dawn
How many times, each facing death's door, did they flair across, in a peril at him, needing and begging
The first time he thought he was losing her, the light was still there, dimmed by fever and confusion but still bright and clear.
When it was his turn at the brink of death, they flashed concern, caring and willed him to continue on for her.
How they had shown with relief when the dark clouds had past and once again she was safe in his arms.
We push and pull, and fall down sometimes
I’m not letting go, you hold the other line
Cause there is a light
In your eyes,...in your eyes
There is a light
In your eyes,...in your eyes
In the desert they glared defiance even in the face of death.
Then flashed agonized disbelief at betrayal from someone she thought could be redeemed.
Finally, they waxed sadness for the savior who came too late.
Whatever would become of him without her light?
Breathe in and breath out
Breathe in and breath out
Breathe in and breath out
Breathe in and breath out
With each breath that slipped away he begged her to hold on.
He would breathe for her, if he could, to keep the light in her eyes’ he so needed.
Without her only darkness remained.
The fading light in her eyes said she forgave him for waiting too long.
As she lay dying, they were wed and for that moment, her light was his.
Then it was gone.
Look back and look right
Into the moon at night
Everything looks like the stars in your arms
He placed the gold band back on his finger. It gleamed dimly against the moonlight and faint pinpoints in dark sky.
It was just a pale reminder of the magnificent, blinding, light he had lost.
Her eyes were in the heavens now, adding their light to all the tiny orbs shining down.
He longed to see them again, to rejoice in their beams.
His eyes shined dark, cold and so impatient for death to deliver him to her.
There is a light
In your eyes, ...in your eyes
There is a light
In your eyes, ... in your eyes
There is a light
In your eyes,... in your eyes
There is a light
In your eyes,... in your eyes’
Robin heard a noise in the brush. He wiped his tears on his sleeve and looked down from the tree he had sat in so many hours.
The faint light of the lantern focused on Much's worried face.
The reflection in his eyes showed sadness for his widower friend.
As he had so many times now, he brought food, drink, blankets and comfort for his former master, now so lost in despair.
And more important . . . in his eyes he brought light.

A/N This is my first foray into fanfiction. I broke rule #1 by making it a song fic but take out the lyrics and it still reads well. Cried buckets writing it.VIDEO CHALLENGE! Attention all you YouTube junkies! I would love to see this used as a script for a montage of clips from the series set to this song.
Any takers?
